Florence Li: I am aware of the social role of young females in the contemporary world. As a woman living in this decade, I feel as if I were constantly being watched and judged by the public around me. However, at the same time I enjoy sharing my private life publicly in order to achieve personal validation. This paradoxical situation has led me to consider who I am. The video work looks at the question of how we objectify ourselves as sexual objects in order to give others pleasure. The close up shot of my face creates an intimate moment between myself and the viewer. The video “Kiss” further explores the notion of female bodies being under constant scrutiny.
